Kaleido Quickie - Tigard

Kaleido-Quickies by Colleen Granger of Sew Little Time Quilting

Since you will be picking your own project reference the fabric requirements listed in the book.  If you need assistance with this please let me know, my contact information is listed at the end of this supply list.

NOTE:  When selecting fabric choose a design that has some background color showing.  Look at the samples in the book and notice the differences with design saturation and color contrast.  The size of the motif is important.  If the motif is too large, it my get cut up so much that it looses its impact.  Conversely, if the motif is too small, the finished square ay be too muddy or blurry. Use a ‘Magic Mirror’ or folded mirror to look at motifs from different perspectives before you buy.

The projects in the book require fabric that is 42” to 45” wide with a distinct design repeat.  The designs on the fabric vary from a short repeat (about 12”)

To an average repeat (about 24”) to a long repeat (about 27”).  The length of the repeat is important as it dictates how much fabric to purchase. Each project identifies the siize and number of repeats required to make that particular layout.

You’ll need a 6” x 24” (or 8-1/2” x 24”) ruler AND a 10” or larger square for cutting the needed squares.

Rotary Cutter

Regular Sewing Thread in Neutral Shade to Blend with Fabric (I like Aurifil)

New Needles (80/12 Microtex/Sharp are my favorites)

Hera Marker, Wooden Iron, Bone Folder, Point Turner (optional but very helpful)

Straight Pins (I like the Clover Patchwork Pins) for Piecing

NOTE:  For this project I ALSOrecommend the Flat Head or Flower Head

Pins as you’ll be placing your ruler over the pins to cut and the pins won’t

Interfere with the ruler as much as the regular pins will.

Seam Ripper (I like the Clover one)

Best Press (optional but helpful for pressing fabric prior to cutting)

1/4" Piecing Foot ORthe foot you use to achieve this

Sewing Machine in Good Working Order

Sewing Machine Bobbins, Power Cord, Foot Pedal, and Manual
